Wolfgang Amadé Mozart was born on 27 January 1756 at the family home at Getreidegasse 9 in Salzburg, to the Salzburg court musician Leopold Mozart and Anna Maria Mozart, née Pertl.

He was their seventh and last child, and only the second — after Maria Anna, called Nannerl — to survive infancy. Two of the seven lived past their first years.
